North West, the new food and wine destination of Auckland

Forget Waiheke, Think North West Auckland (no further away and you aren’t stuck on a ferry getting here!), plentiful wineries, great restaurants, beautiful beaches, native walks and adventure!

Only a short 35 mins from the Auckland CBD along the North Western motorway and then off onto state highway 16, you will feel like and you literally will be in the countryside.

Roadside fruit & veggie shops, strawberry fields for pick-your own (from after Christmas) and fresh berry ice-creams.

The wineries will appear on both sides as you continue down SH16, not to mention all the ones off the side roads and well hidden ones that are known only by the locals.

Hidden within the rolling hills and ‘old’ New Zealand you will find a destination for all Wine Lovers, Foodies, those you appreciate the yet to be discovered and make it big Artists of rural New Zealand and Adventure Seekers.

Day-trippers and weekend staycationers, watch out, North West country is your new destination, say bye-bye Waiheke and Matakana and say Hi, North West country!

Kumeu, Huapai, Waimauku, Riverhead, Woodhill,Helensville, Parakai and Kaukapakapa are all deeply engulfed in local history of winemaking, timber milling, dairy factories and farming due to the close proximity of the Kaipara Harbour and historically a major port. All individually and uniquely filled with history and passionate residents.

It’s hard to imagine how the North West has been forgotten for so long.

Hop from winery to winery, explore the arisian breweries, bakeries and even a kombuchery. There are artist galleries who will welcome you and show off their works of art. If you are lucky enough, you will visit on one of the many art festivals held in this area.

Everyone is laid back out here in the North West and will certainly welcome you. We haven’t had the crowds of visitors yet, so your visit out here is the is still the real, true New Zealand hospitality and you won’t be squeezed through restaurants or galleries like cattle (although you will spot plenty of those driving through the countryside).

Whether it’s an overnight adventure to the Vineyard Cottages or a weekend escape exploring what North West has to offer, you will not be disappointed.

It’s ideal to escape to, to rejuvenate and unwind or if your straight off a plane, the ideal place to start your New Zealand journey only 35 mins from the CBD and the international airport.
