Spring at Vineyard Cottages is a love affair I fall into every single year. Just when I have convinced myself that winter log fires, mulled wine, and hot tubs are all I need in life, spring comes waltzing in wearing a crown of blossoms and smelling like freshly cut grass, and suddenly I am head over heels again.
The blossoms are the real show stoppers. Pink, white, fluffy and flirty, they cover the orchard like nature’s version of confetti at a countryside wedding. I catch guests standing under them, arms outstretched like they are in their own romantic comedy montage. Honestly, if Hugh Grant ever wandered past, it would not feel out of place. And yes, I have been guilty of standing under them with a glass of rosé, pretending the petals are falling just for me.
It is no wonder that spring here is the season of weddings. The orchard becomes a natural aisle, the vines a stunning backdrop, and the blossoms make every bridal photo look like something from a fairytale. Bridal parties gather in the cottages, laughter spilling out as hair is styled, dresses are zipped, and glasses of bubbles are raised in a toast to love. The romance in the air is contagious, even for those of us lucky enough to witness it all from behind the scenes.
Then there are the mornings. The kind where the light is so soft you almost forgive your alarm clock. Guests wander out with coffee in hand, still in slippers, looking around like they have stumbled into a postcard. The vines are just waking up too, stretching their little green shoots toward the sun, which feels like watching nature hit the snooze button, then finally get up and start the day.
Food in spring is pure flirtation. Suddenly the markets are brimming with asparagus, strawberries, and tender greens, and I cannot resist bringing it all home. Picture a plate of just picked produce, a hunk of local cheese, and a bottle of crisp sauvignon blanc shared on the veranda, that is spring at Vineyard Cottages. The flavours are light, fresh, and a little cheeky, like the season itself. Even the rosé seems to wink at you in the glass.
Of course, spring is not all demure and pretty. It is cheeky too. Lambs pop up in the neighbouring paddocks, bouncing about like toddlers on a sugar high. Our bees hum around like they are running the busiest social club in town. Birds sing from dawn to dusk, probably showing off, and I cannot help but think spring has an energy that is contagious.
The romance does not stop with nature either. Guests arrive here ready to shake off winter and soak up something new. Couples linger a little longer over wine tastings, friends sprawl on the lawns with a bottle of rosé, and families trade the rush of life for board games and long conversations. There is laughter drifting out of the cottages, clinking glasses in the sunshine, and that delicious sense that time has slowed down just for you.
And me? I am hopelessly in love with it all. Every spring, Vineyard Cottages feels like it has been dressed up just for the occasion. It is a season that whispers promises of long summer nights ahead, but still keeps the romance of fireside evenings alive. It is playful, it is beautiful, and it is the reminder that life’s sweetest moments are best enjoyed with good company, great wine, and a view framed by blossoms.
Spring is not just a season here. It is a romance. And trust me, you will fall for it too.
Come and stay soon. Elle x
